History of Moirang
The town of Moirang, is historically famous for the ancient temple of Lord Thangjing, the pre-Hindu deity and the Epic love story of "Khamba Thoibi. The cloth used by Khamba and Nongban are still preserved in a village named Ngangkhaleikai.In ancient times, among the seven clan kings of Manipur, the King of Moirang was considered as the most powerful. The Burmese King paid the annual war reparations money to the Moirang king, till the end of Khamba-Thoibi era.
Moirang was the headquarters of Azad Hind Fauz, during World War II. On 14 April 1944, Colonel Shaukat Malik hoisted the Tricolour for the first time on Indian soil in Moirang by the kind help of Shri Mairembam Koireng Singh and other Manipuris. They were members of the Indian National Army (INA). Some wartime relics and photographs are displayed at the INA.

Phubala: It is another important tourist place located close to the town of Moirang as well as close to Loktak Lake. Phubala is a place where one can enjoy boating and other water sports.
Ebudhou Thangjing Temple: It is one of the popular temples in Moirang. The temple is dedicated to Ibudhou thangjing, one of the most important traditional deities of the Manipuri people. The Manipuris believe that Moirang from evil by Lord Thangjing. The Lai Haroba festival is celebrated with great joy in this temple during the month of May.

How to Reach Moirang
The town is well connected to the city of Imphal and Churachandpur by NH:-150. The two important district roads that connect Moirang are Moirang-Kumbi and Moirang-Thanga. There are regular buses and taxis from Imphal to Moirang.
